2014 JSU Athletics Camp Information

Welcome to the Jackson State University Athletic Camps web page! Camp information is now available for the sports listed below. Information for this year's other camps will be posted as it comes available.


Fundamental drills, including hitting, defense and pitching, are emphasized in a setting that includes an excellent coach-to-camper ratio.

Camps/Dates: Session I - June 23-25, Session II - June 30 - July 2, Session III - July 7-9, Session IV - July 9-11. For more information contact head coach Omar Johnson at 979-3930 or

Camp registration: Sessions I & III, 9 a.m.-9:30 a.m.; Sessions II & IV, 12:30 p.m. - 1 p.m.

Hours: All campers will attend all sessions. Camp on June 23, 24, 30 and July 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11: 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Camp on July 9, Session III, 8:30 a.m. - noon; Session IV, 1-4 p.m.

Location: Bob Braddy Baseball Field.

Fee: Pre-registration, $60; late registration, $70.

Ages: Sessions I and III (8-12), Sessions II and IV (13-high school seniors - who have not signed a scholarship).

*Men's Basketball

Participants focus on ball handling, passing shooting, rebounding and defense.

Dates: June 2-5; June 23-26; July 28-31

Hours: 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Location: Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center

Fee: $100; $117 (includes youth season tickets for the 2014-15 basketball season)

Application: March 1 - July 28

Grades: 1 - 12

What to bring: registration form, apparel (gym shorts, t-shirts, gym shoes), money for snacks and lunch ($6 per day). Campers will also be allowed to bring their own food.


*Women's Basketball

The Lady Tigers Basketball Camp is designed to assist the growth and development of fundamental skills as well as an advanced level of skill acquisition in ball handling, jump shot development, passing, rebounding, free throws, transition offense and defense.

*Women's Volleyball

The Lady Tigers Mini Camp is designed for beginners and intermediate-level campers to both spark interest in volleyball and improve fundamental skills in passing, setting, hitting and serving. Campers are placed in groups of similar ability.

The Lady Tigers Skills Camp is designed to stregnthen basic fundamentals by going further in-depth, helping campers understand the complete game of volleyball. Campers are placed in groups of similar ability.

Hours: Mini Camp, 8 a.m. - noon; Skills Camp, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Location: T.B. Ellis Gymnasium

Application Deadline: Friday, May 30 (First session), Monday, June 30 (Second session)

Fee: $75, Mini Camp; $100, Skills Camp/commuters (lunch provided), 200 residential camper

Ages: 11- 18

Learn skills and strategy from head coach Rick Fremin. In his forth season at Jackson State University, he has led JSU to two consecutive championship games and immediately led the program to its first SWAC Championship and first NCAA regional appearance in history of the program. The camp includes autograph sessions, photos with staff, recruiting tips, awards and a "Camp Surprise."
