JACKSON –Julysses Nobles scored a game high 15 points and dished out seven assists to lead the Jackson State men’s basketball team to a 76-59 victory over the Grambling State Tigers in Southwestern Athletic Conference action Saturday night at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
With the win JSU improves to a 7-12, 3-4 record while GSU falls to 1-15, 0-7.
Nobles went 6-9 from the floor and 2-2 from the free throw and had four rebounds in 35 minutes of action. Three other JSU starters also scored in double-digits. BJ West scored 14 points in 28 minutes. He was an efficient 6-8 from the field and went 2-3 from the line. He also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. JB Brent chipped in 12 points, four rebounds and two steals. Treshawn Bolden scored 10 points on 3-6 shooting from the field and 4-6 shooting from the line.
Chandler Thomas came off the bench to lead Grambling in scoring with 13 points on 5-10 shooting.
JSU opened the game with an 11-2 run and never looked back. By the 7:48 mark in the first half, JSU increased its lead to 12 points (27-15) and carried a 38-23 lead into halftime.
For the game JSU shot 53.6% (30-36) from the field, 35.7% (5-14) from three-point range and 73.3% (11-15) from the line. GSU shot 49.0% (24-49) from the floor, 28.6% (4-14) in threes, and 53.8% (7-13) from the line. The Tigers held the rebounding edge (30-27). JSU also owned the lane against GSU, scoring 46 points in the paint while holding GSU to 34.
Jackson State returns to action Saturday, Feb. 1 when the Tigers travel to Itta Bena, Miss. to take on Mississippi Valley State in SWAC action.
