JACKSON, Miss. — BJ West’s 10th double-double of the season wasn’t enough as the Jackson State University men’s basketball team fell 85-80 to Prairie View A&M University in double overtime Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center. West registered 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
With the loss, the Tigers fall to 5-12 overall and 1-4 in SWAC action.
Jackson State shot 42.9 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from behind the arch and 77.8 percent from the stripe for the game.
The game had 10 ties and 10 lead changes. Jackson State’s bench outscored Prairie View A&M’s bench, 39-20.
Julysses Nobles added 17 points while Derell Taylor registered 14 and six rebounds. Jeff Stubbs recorded 10 points to round out Jackson State’s double-figure scoring.
Louis Munks spearheaded the Panthers with 23 points while Montrael Scott tallied 15. Tre Hagood registered 14, Demondre Chapman tallied 13, and Hershey Robinson added 11 points.
Jackson State trailed Prairie View A&M 35-29 going into the half. Janarius Middleton led the Tigers at the half with eight points while Chapman led the way for Prairie View A&M with 10.
Jackson State shot 40.7 percent from the field, 12.5 percent from behind the arch and 100 percent from the stripe in the first half.
The Tigers host Texas Southern University Monday, Jan. 20, 2014, at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
