MARTIN, TN – Julysses Nobles and BJ West combined to score 34 points and lead the Jackson State men’s basketball team to its second win of the season by defeating the UT Martin Sky Hawks 68-64 Friday night at the Elam Center.
Nobles scored 15 points on 5-11 shooting from the field and dished out a team high five assists and pulled down three rebounds for the Tigers. West came off the bench to record a double-double, scoring 17 points on an efficient 8-12 shooting from the field. He also pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds. Jeff Stubbs and Javeres Brent each finished with eight points.
JSU led 33-27 at halftime and built an 11 point lead at the 16:48 mark in the second half. For the game the Tigers shot 42.3% from the field (22-52), 55.6% from three-point range (5-9) and 76% from the free throw line (19-25). UTM made 37.3% of its field goal attempts (19-51) and went 28.6% in threes (6-21). The Sky Hawks shot 62.5% from the line (20-32). JSU outrebounded UTM 45-29.
JSU returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 27 when the Tigers travel to Starkville, MS to take on Mississippi State. Tip-off is set for 1 pm.
