Jackson State Softball Beats Arkansas-Pine Bluff 10-1 and Grambling 9-0

DECATUR, Ala. - The Jackson State softball team bounced back to beat the Arkansas Pine Bluff Lady Lions 10-1 and Grambling State 9-0 on the second day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament Thursday afternoon at Wilson Morgan Park.

JSU, which is in the elimination bracket, fell 5-4 in extra innings to Grambling State on Wednesday. On Thursday the Lady Tigers found their offense, scoring 10 runs on 10 hits with eight RBI. The JSU defense held UAPB to one run on two hits.

Breea Jamerson pitched five inning to get the win.

Jasmine Warren went 3-4 at the plate with two runs and a RBI for Jackson State. Lauren Aikens finished with two hits, a run and a RBI and Tayler Nave recorded the only home run of the game.

JSU scored first, putting three runs on the scoreboard in the first inning. Warren, Canessa Swanson and Sabeana Romero all scored for JSU. The Lady Tigers added another four runs in the fourth inning when Amanda Vasquez and Ariel Siegel both scored. Nave ended the inning with a two-run homer to left field.

UAPB scored a run to cut JSU’s lead to 7-1 at the bottom of the fourth. JSU scored another three runs in the fifth to put the game out of reach. Vasquez, Aikens and Tahlisa Blosser all scored for the Lady Tigers.

In the second game of the day for JSU avenged the day one loss to Grambling State by beating and eliminating the GSU Lady Tigers. Jamerson pitched recorded the shutout win for JSU. In seven innings of work she gave up only two hits and recorded three strikeouts.

JSU scored the first run of the game in the second inning when Romero scored on a Vasquez sacrifice fly. JSU added another run in the fifth when Raveen Palmer scored. The Lady Tigers added two more runs in the sixth to make the score 4-0. JSU closed out the game with a five run seventh inning.

Swanson went 3-3 at the plate with two runs and two RBI for JSU.

JSU returns to action Friday to play the Alabama State Lady Hornets at noon.
