JACKSON – The Jackson State baseball team outlasted the University of New Orleans Privateers to earn a 9-6 victory Wednesday evening at Braddy Field.
With the win JSU improved to a 23-18 overall record and UNO fell to a 6-38 mark.
UNO scored the first runs of the game in the second inning, putting two on the scoreboard. The Privateers added another run in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead.
JSU scored its first run in the fourth when Ethan Bright sent Malcolm Tate home on a double to right field in the fourth. The Tigers scored four more runs on four hits in the sixth to take a 5-3 advantage.
The Privateers scored three in the seventh to take a 6-5 lead, but the Tigers scored three to take an 8-6 lead. JSU added another run in the eighth to make the score 9-6.
JSU scored its nine runs on 15 hits and had eight RBI. UNO scored its six runs on seven hits and had three RBI. Ethan Bright and Charles Tillery each recorded three hits for JSU. Bright scored a run and had a RBI and Tillery had two runs and three RBI. Bryce Taylor finished with two hits and three runs.
The Tigers return to action Saturday and Sunday to host the Alcorn State Braves in a three game series at Braddy Field. Saturday’s game is a single contest and starts at 1 p.m. Sunday’s double header starts at 2 p.m.
