ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Jackson State baseball team took the first two games of a three game weekend series at Legion Field. The Tigers won the first game 10-6 and the second 10-3.
In the opener JSU (20-16, 14-3) scored its 10 runs on 12 hits and had six RBI. Valley (4-29, 1-10) got its six runs on seven hits. Both teams had multiple errors, JSU finished with four and MVSU had six.
Alexander Juday (1-3) pitched nine innings for the win. He had a game high six strikeouts. Montana Killier (1-9) pitched for four innings suffered the loss.
The Tigers scored four runs in the fourth inning and Valley scored two at the bottom of the second. The Delta Devils added a run in the third and fourth innings to tie the game at 4-4. JSU scored three runs to regain the lead in the fifth. Valley scored two runs in the seventh to cut JSU’s lead to 7-6. JSU scored a run in the eighth and two in the ninth to make the final score 10-6.
Charles Tillery went 4-4 at the plate with two runs to lead the JSU offense. Aneko Knowles went 3-3 with a run and two RBI.
In the second game, JSU dominated the entire game. JSU got on the scoreboard first, scoring three runs in the second inning. The Tigers added another three in the fourth and a run in the fifth. JSU continued to have hot bats in the sixth, putting two runs on the board to make the score 9-0.
Valley scored three runs in the eighth. JSU added its final run in the ninth inning. The Tigers finished the game with 13 hits and an error. Valley had six hits.
Knowles and Tillery each had three hits. Knowles had two RBI and Tillery scored a run and recorded a RBI.
The two teams return to action for the final game of the series Sunday at 1 pm.
