GARLAND, Texas - No. 2 seeded Jackson State University picked up a 66-59 win over No. 5 seed Alabama State on Thursday during the semifinals of the 2013 Toyota SWAC Basketball Tournament.
JSU (11-17) recorded 12 points off of turnovers, 16 second-chance points and 28 points from its reserves while shooting 36 percent overall.
Christian Williams led all scorers with 22 points and Jeff Stubbs fueled the Tigers with 18 points to lead the reserves.
Williams was 6 of 13 from the field for the game with Willie Readus and Derrell Taylor pulling in seven rebounds apiece.
ASU (10-22) led 31-30 at halftime and shot 41 percent from the field for the game, while JSU shot 36.5 percent. The Hornets had 12 turnovers, and the Tigers had the advantage in rebounding 40-35.
Phillip Crawford had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Hornets. Denaell McDaniel had 15 points, and Joshua Freelove added 11. Bobby Brown had a team-high 11 rebounds.
Jackson State will play the winner of the Thursday night match between Alcorn State and Prairie View A&M in the semifinals on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
