LUBBOCK, Tex. - The Jackson State softball team lost the final game of the Texas Tech Invitational with an 8-4 loss to McNeese State. The Lady Tigers finished the tournament with a 1-4 record and falls to a 5-15 overall record.
Canessa Swanson led JSU's offensive efforts going 2-3 from the plate with two runs. Raveen Palmer added a hit and two RBI.
JSU got on the scoreboard in the first inning when Swanson scored on an Amanda Vasquez single. McNeese took the lead in the second inning, scoring two runs, and added another in the fourth. JSU reclaimed the lead with a three run fifth. Jasmine Warren scored on a Tayler Nave double and Swanson and Nave each scored on a Palmer single.
McNeese State broke the game open in the sixth with a five run inning.
Breea Jamerson (4-11) suffered the loss. In seven innings of work she gave up eight runs on seven hits. Jamie Allred (7-2) got the win. In 2.2 innings of work she allowed one hit.
The Lady Tigers opened the tournament with losses to Northern Colorado (5-3) and Texas Tech (18-0). On the second day JSU dropped its second game to Northern Colorado (9-5), but bounced back to pick up a big win over Texas Tech (4-2). The win was JSU first against a Big 12 opponent.
Next the Lady Tigers will host Williams Carey on Tuesday, Mar. 5 at the JSU Softball Complex. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
