JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State women's basketball team extended its winning streak to three games, as the Lady Tigers defeated the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions 70-59 in Southwestern Athletic Conference action Monday night at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
With the win JSU improves to a 7-11, 4-5 record and UAPB falls to a 7-12, 5-5 record.
Tiffany Kellum led JSU with a 14 point, four rebound effort. She went 4-9 from the field and 6-9 from the free throw line. Beatrice Banks came off the bench to score 11 points on 3-4 shooting from three-point range. She was also 2-2 from the free throw line.
Chigozianyi Okwumbua scored a game high 22 points and Lakendra Marsh followed with 18 points.
JSU led 34-23 at halftime. Both teams shot 38% from the field. JSU connected on 37.5% of its three-point attempts and made 78.6% of its free throws. UAPB shot 15.4% from three-point range and 61.3% from the line. UAPB held the edge in rebounding 35-25.
Jackson State will return to action Saturday, Feb. 2 when the Lady Tigers travel to Lorman, MS to take on the Alcorn State Lady Braves in SWAC action. Tip-off is set for 3 pm.
