JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State men's basketball team held on to beat in-state rival Mississippi Valley State in Southwestern Athletic Conference action Saturday night at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
The victory gives JSU its first winning streak of the season. The Tigers improve to a 3-14, 2-6 record. The Delta Devils fall to 2-16, 3-6.
Three Tigers scored in double figures. Christian Williams scored a team high 15 points on 5-10 shooting from the field. He also went 3-5 from three point range. Jeff Stubbs added 13 points on 5-8 shooting. Derrell Taylor just missed out on a double-double as he finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Davon Usher led Valley with 26 points and Matt Smith added 15 points and 10 rebounds.
JSU led 27-22 at halftime. The Tigers out-rebounded MVSU 35-27.
Jackson State returns to action Monday, Jan. 28 to host the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lions in SWAC action. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
